Well done so far! No hanging about there then! Its a good opportunity to get all the cables for speakers and other electric sorted too. It certainly looked a bit damper than your first suggestion!

we are finally winning the battle! is a nice feeling when you start to actually 're-build' rather than 'rip-out' ! now re-building the seats and electrics are due to go in this week too....you never know we may get to go out in her soon!!!!

Good to hear she is water tight. You have clearly done a great job.
Unfortunately with campers moisture attacks from two directions, externally with rain and internally with water vapour.
No one would ever design a building like a camper van because it breaks the cardinal rule that the vapour barrier (in this case the aluminium cladding) should be on the warm side of the insulation (Kingspan in your case).
In a building the outer skin would be classed as a rainscreen and would have a ventilated space between it and the insulation. (The exception being a composite panel like you have on an industrial shed or a freezer truck)
You have the advantage over mineral fibre insulation in that the Kingspan is unaffected by moisture and has an integral vapour barrier (the silver bit) but this is not continuous and if the vapour pressure inside the van is high enough, water vapour will pass through the plywood liner and the joints and condense on the cold surface of the aluminium skin, or worse still condense around the susceptible timber framing. This can lead to rotting of the timber frame and also the aluminium skin where it is in contact with the frame.
To avoid this:-
Provide vapour barrier internally by means of paint/lacquer/vinyl finish
Provide ventilation internally to reduce vapour pressure (open a window)
Increase temperature internally.
As we say in the building industry, build tight, ventilate right.

thanks peeps and nick what you write makes sense..will keep that in mind. we have treated all the wood that we used and that we exposed so hopefully that will help keep rot at bay. we seem to be battling with a rather annoying dampness to the back of the van in on of the corners that we have rebuilt...think it is coming from the rear window as that it the only rear window that we have not removed and re-masticked in, so will be doing that next week...oh joy!
van has gone for another jaunt from Bristol to Cambridge this weekend with the hubby...it seems we also have an exhaust issue as it really smells in the back as we travel, this is a bummer as neither my hubby or i have any idea about engines etc...so may be a costly garage visit
also a few mechanical minded folk have mentioned taking out her petrol engine and putting in a diesel?? any thoughts on this??

ahh rod, just looked at your pikks and yes yours does look like a much bigger job.
we have only fixed up the rear end of olive as the rest seems dry and fairly solid ( i say this but above the cab the frame is not great but is dry) we are still battling a leak at the rear end....so annoying to see our lovely new wood with damp patches, so glad we used treated timber and also treated any old wood we came across in the van.
we are planning on taking off the panels again to dry her out and see if we can find the leak. she also needs a new exhaust as i have been almost gassed out when travelling in the back!!
oh the joys!!
