Hello from the Highlands

Hi, we have just become the proud new family of a 1981 bedford cf250, she was bought by the previous owner to strip so he could do a transit conversion then advertised for spares repair basis if no one took her she was destined for the local scrappy
we have some work ahead of us so we are glad to find the forum :)

Hi all

Ive been busy trying to get the beast running!:(
so far ive had a real mess to deal with and ive had her turn over very slowly(like a dying battery) but no firing up and then it just clicks when i turn the key!

Ive taken the starter out and ive ran afew checks and it does spin albiet with no real force as it doesnt even move around as it spins like some ive tested(touched the lead and didnt hold it down)

it spins though?
i think maybe the teeth dont retract also but im gonna look later and see and at the same time il give it a once over!

Im also facing a problem with my barrel as it feel apart but i can hotwire it to test the starting problems so thats the least of my worries!

the main problem is the guy that had the van cut the battery terminals off and im left with two earths(one connected to the side of the cage and one connected to the bottom of the cage in the centre)and then comes the positive!
i have one orange cable comming from the starter and thats it?

when i was trying the starter the neg wire was getting warm??????

any help out there as im in dire need as ive got lights/hazards/wipers/brake lights/numberplate lights/headlights/'interior lights/but no indicators/and two fogs that only iluminate the indicators one at a time(one fog is left side and the other right side indicator but both on cancels it out completely)


like i said its a mess!!

and that before i even bother with the interior roof beams and the rott!!!god what have i done!!!

rust is ok and floor so thats an upside:)

Hello Stephen,
Congratulations on buying a Bedford. Good luck with the restoration. Hopefully we may bump into you at some time on our travels as we are in Fife.

Fit a new earth lead, preferably stranded insulated type rather than braided. Need minimum 16 sq mm conductor cross-sectional area for petrol engines & if using battery terminal with screw cable clamp then make sure that the conductors are a neat fit in the screw clamp hole.

Flag up the faults you've found in CF Questions - usually better response there. Some photos probably will help too especially if there's any non-standard switchgear/wiring/etc.
