Man and Van

Hello All,

I just signed up as a full member yesterday so though I should say hello here

I became the proud owner of a 1983 CF350 Pioneer coachbuilt camper running a 2.8 Ford V6 a couple of weeks ago.

Originally bought for my son and I to enjoy the Reading festival in a little more style (personal sanitation arrangements a must ) but we already have a few other trips planned.

A few things to sort out like a leaky water heater and some recently discovered damp issues so I'm sure I'll be on here bugging you with questions.

cheers all,

Matt

Hi Matt welcome to the club nice looking van it will be good to know what MPG you get with the V6 in it will definately pull better than a bedford slant engine.

Welcome. Tidy looking van there. I will also be keen to see what the MPG is like. I seem to have an addiction to engine transplants...

Welcome to the club Matt. It seems like everyone is asking the same question as me. What sort of mpg do you get?
I thinks we will also be interested in how the 2.8 transplant fits, if there is no bulkhead surgery it may have much to commend it.

Thanks for the welcome everyone.

The engine was already in when I bought the van and I haven't had a good enough poke around the engine bay to determine for sure if any surgery has been performed but by the looks of things and based on some posts on this very forum I would say not.

I've only had one long run when I picked her up from Telford (about 140 miles ) so not much to go on but I reckon I was only getting mpg in the low teens on that run. Having said that I'm not sure I was driving very economically as I was keen to get home :)

The van has a four speed box with o/d which certainly seems to help bring the revs down, but reading on this forum I gather the rear diff may be a limiting factor on getting the most out of the engine.

If anyone has any thoughts on that I be glad hear them :)
I do think there might be an over-fuelling issue somewhere as there is quite a strong fuel smell from the exhaust and I gather the last emissions test was touch and go.

cheers all
