Maud (ENV 210X)

Hi all... about time I thought to properly introduce our van maud to you all, and have somewhere to keep our travels & work we've done on her.

The name maud was written on the top of some of the documentation that came with her so the name had to stick.

Hard to beleive it's so long ago but we had some spare cash so started looking at a motorhome/campervan, bedfords soon appeared on the shortlist as reasonable value and plenty of space.

So in 2006 (? must check the date) we bought her from a chap the other side of stratford on avon who had her and a bedford van and decided to keep the van and sell the motorhome.

Ladies & gentlemen I give you Maud:

Maud is an Autohomes Motorhome (brochure link: http://www.bedfordcf.co.uk/br/br2.htm) based on as far as we can tell a CF facelift chassis.

One of our first trips out was down for a few days with sister in law & co i really dont remember, Newton Abbot way somewhere! And on the return journey few days in the new forest with a trip to the isle of wight (foot passengers parking at the hovercraft terminal).

Now we have a little saying that Maud likes to make herself known at least once per trip and this trip was probably the start of this as just outside exeter this:

Pulling over on the verge from 40mph with next to no visibility was, interesting. Fortunately out recovery truck driver knew how to deal with an old hardened glass screen.
Unfortunately autoglass in exeter couldn't get one till the next day so we spent a night in a slightly bizarre b & b.
The one they got was cracked but they fitted it to get us on our way, to be replaced when we got home (and they'd found another!).

This was also the trip where i learnt about the clutch linkage adjustment as it became increasingly difficult to change gear all the way home ! Not helped by a missing spring, which was bodged (and still is!) with a bungee cord.

Next trip out appears to have been September 2006 with the long drag across to Norfolk for a little filler & TLC from a classic mad relative (who has also been a mine of wisdom and advice on various issues!).... where maude got to blend seamlessly with some triumphs:

The journey back was, eventful as we pulled off the a14 toward Newmarket to find some lunch. After a lap of the town we noticed a grating noise coming from the back under acceleration and pulled up to check.
The noise was the spare wheel carrier dragging on the road and the culprit, a flat rear.

We had the spare, and a small trolley jack so no problem ? Took quite a bit of cursing to realise quite how far under the van you have to crawl to work the jack but got there in the end and made for the nearest car park desperate for some food!

Since getting the van I'd been curious what the very long crank handle with a hook on the end was for. As we left the van I slipped the camera out of sight under the seat and found a carrier bag i hadn't noticed, inside was a bottle jack which married to the mystery handle. I quickly realised this was the perfect tool for jacking up the rear axle, found only 5minutes too late!

This trip & flat triggered a good look at the tyres (of unknown heritage) and replacement all round just in case.

That made me smile! Most of my trips out( not in this van as yet!) seem to be like that.
Look forward to hearing about Mauds adventures!
Thanks for posting

I hope that the rest of your journeys are less troublesome.
