battery light

Hi all,
My battery light comes on when the van is at tick over and goes out when driving,
But comes back on if I put my lights on. It has been tested and they say its ok. I'm getting 14V at tick over
I am thinking its a earth problem but not sure, battery to earth is good.
Could it be in the bulkhead connector. If so which wire is it.

Thanks,
Dobbin

Both my CFs do the same. There is no voltage regulator in earlier CFs so if something is drawing a large current from a particular feed, you may get a slight voltage drop, and thus the light partially comes on. So long as your battery and alternator test out OK then there is no real need to worry. Just make sure you test the alternator with EVERYTHING running, as this is the situation where it has greatest load and thus is most likely to show up a fault.

Just to add, mine only glows slightly with lights etc on. If the alternator were to fail, the light would be brighter, thus it still performs it's function. If yours comes on fully then yes, you either have a bad earth somewhere or your alternator is not charging fully under load.

Sound like the diodes in the field are braking down under load,
Another point to look at is the bulkhead connectors are dirty building up resistance in the charging system.
