Manual Gearbox Oil

Please could anyone advise on the correct oil for the manual gearbox on our 1983 CF 250 Autosleeper - as in the Haynes manual it mentions three different types of box and two different oils..... EP 80 and EP 90. Many thanks !

you need to find out which gearbox you have fitted to enable you to use the correct oil.......

it will either be a ZF or a vauxhall box

My van is actually 1984 I have realised.....it has the Vauxhall gearbox and according to Adrian Bailey it is best to use 20/50 engine oil in this gearbox. The gearshift on the box is a little stiff so would the 20/50 as opposed to the EP 90 help with this ? Also, the Haynes manual shows a drain plug but there isn't one so I guess I have to siphon the old oil out.... so any tips on how best to do that would be greatly appreciated !

20/50 is not recommended in gearboxes as when oil is hot the oil will be to thin.

before you drain the box try adding PTFE powder this will ease the stiffness , or help a little ..

is the stiffness there when engine is not running??

Thanks once again Gethin - the van was laid up for a long time and now it has had a run for the MOT etc, the problem seems to have gone away. If it returns I now know what to do !
