councils allowing campers to park

having been to France and after our little trip i REALLY REALLY think that councils should do some thing allowing campers to park up over night in towns and citys .
for instance we stayed in Lyme Regis for the night and went in to town and spent £20 odd quid . now if the councils had say 5/6 bays for campers like in France and they all spend ££ in that or that town every one wins dont they .
come on councils DO SOME THING ..
