Front spring compressor tool? Alternative method? Hi Everyone. I have the engine and front cross member off the CF. Had to do a bit of welding to the chassis and needed it all off to access... while out, thought id take the opportunity to restore the suspension and all the rest. Got to the point where I need to remove the front springs. Haynes suggests special tool Z8561. I cannot find this anywhere, doesn't even appear on google search- my savour for everything. I've tried using modern spring compression tools but I can't get them on because most of the spring is inside the main cross member.Has anyone done this before and have their experience to share? Or has anyone got a tool I can rent or buy? Cheers ---------------------- | Tue 24 Sep 2013 @ 19:37 |

Just split two cross members last weekend actually. I just popped the track rod ends off, then popped both lower ball joints. DO NOT REMOVE THE SHOCK BEFORE YOU DO THIS!!!. The shock will prevent the wishbones flying apart and the spring escaping. after that, pop the upper ball joints, followed by loosening the upper and lower wishbone mounts. I then cut the top mounts off the shocks (good luck if you try and remove the bolts). The wishbones will open more as soon as the shock lets go but nothing too drastic. Then you are pretty much there - nothing more under pressure. | Tue 24 Sep 2013 @ 20:03 |

with the van lifted as high as you can and placed on axle stands you can remove the front wheels then using a decent bottle jack gently lower the bottom arm once you have undone the nut. you mite have to tap the joint hard to separate but so long as the jack is about 1mm from the bottom ball joint you should then be able to lower the jack in a controlled way......... | Tue 24 Sep 2013 @ 20:07 |

Looking at the diagram, could you not make one from a length of threaded rod? ---------------------- | Tue 24 Sep 2013 @ 20:16 |

Thanks a lot for your suggestions guys. Bottle jacks a great idea, its off the van now unfortunately so there's no weight to push back against the spring. I will have a go at it this weekend. Thanks again. | Thu 26 Sep 2013 @ 21:19 |
