Dependable mechanic, Merseyside
Just spoke to Dave from D.G.S auto's who used to maintain the ice cream vans
back in the day.
He say's he would love to do some more work on C.F's however height restrictions
may be a limiting factor on what job's can be done, due to Dave not being
willing to leave van's outside overnight. hey ho...
but better safe than sorry!
Dave on 0151 222 0024 for basic servicing and M.O.T and some light gas welding.

Gas appliance engineer (North Yorkshire)
Hello,
I'm after someone to take a look at the gas heating, hot water and fridge in my Bedford CF. The heating and hot water are both Suburban units and the fridge is Electrolux. Hot water and fridge are both very hard to light and the automatic ignition on the blown air heating isn't working for some reason. The gas cooker on the other hand works fine.
I'm based in Ripon, North Yorkshire.
Cheers,
Rick

If you can get over here then I could have a look at your system and figure out why its not working.

All the gas equipment was working last year & tested for leaks so it's probably a matter of patience to get things going again, i.e. purge all the gas lines.
The Suburban forced air heater does take its time to start up anyway & it can take a few cycles to fire it up first time after connecting a gas bottle. If you remove the metal panel inside the van (under the couch on the right hand side) then you should find instructions on the inside of the panel. If the electrics seem dead (fan motor not running during the start up cycle) then check the fuses on the electrics control unit and also in the cupboard above the kitchen unit.
The water heater is fired up from outside the van: hold the switch on pilot position until the pilot flame will light (that's the really tedious bit) then hold it on for about a minute or so first time.
The fridge might need some help if the spark igniter doesn't seem to do anything: remove the small panel next to the habitation door to get at the back of the fridge to light the pilot. First time it can be as tedious as the pilot on the water heater...

Anyone in the west mids/worc/herefordshire area?
I need someone with knowledge to have a good look at the van ,and assess
if much needs doing.
Was out today for a short trip, and the engine was making a 'grinding'
noise when accelerating, and when i went up the dual carriageway from 40 mph in 4th trying to gain speed, it was like i was wheel spinning ,the revs were getting louder but the speed wasn't increasing.
Take the foot off the accelerator slightly, noise stopped, and the speed
gradually gained.

Check the adjustment at the clutch fork first. Which engine would help - there's 3 types of adjustment.

Adjuster is on the right hand rear face of the clutch housing -
Slacken lock nut (1) on ball stud then rotate ball stud (2) to achieve free travel 'Y' of 4 to 5mm (easier to assess with fork anti-rattle spring detached).
Tighten lock nut ensuring that there is full nut contact obtained on ball stud threads.
If the clutch still slips at this setting then renew the clutch.

Mechanic needed in Cornwall/Devon
Hi can anyone help?!
I have a very sad looking 76 Bedouin who has spent the last 3 years in a field in North Cornwall. She was running when parked up and will now turn over but not start. She's in need of a refurb so I am looking for a mechanic or a Bedford enthusiast in the local area (Nr Wadebridge)with knowledge of CF's to get her up and running.
Anyone have any recommendations?
