I particularly like the second to last picture of the stealth beddy, notice all you can see is the step modern technology, who needs it

Hi all - looks like we missed a good meet unfortunately.
We were all set to come up - but the fates decreed otherwise, due to me making an assumption, which ended up with me in Chelmsford specialist burns unit for 12 days

I was told, when buying the van, that the fridge was not connected to the gas. I assumed that the gas pipe would therefore be blocked off - it wasn't.

We had started to do a clean up inside, as the van had been standing.
i lit the pilot on the water heater and we came inside for a cuppa.
A short while later Kim went outside and said she could smell gas.

My RAF Firefighter training kicked in and I knew I had to get in the van and get the gas turned off, and in doing so risk a flashover, rather than wait for brigade and risk a massive explosion - gas and fuel tank and next door's car - which could have resulted in serious injury or death to us and our neighbours.

End result - a very singed Dutchy with 29% burns - a slightly damaged Beddy which could have been so much worse.

I can wholeheartedly recommend the services at Broomfield Hospital, but can better recommend not getting scorched in the first place;D

Hopefully in about 2 or 3 weeks I will be fairly well mended, and can start thinking about necessary repairs to Beddy.

Mr BG was very helpful in securing the Beddy against weather.

Moral of this tale - NEVER EVER ASSUME SOMETHING - ALWAYS CHECK

Thanks Derk.
Yes, it could have been very much worse - gas bottle and fuel tank on my van and next door's car alongside, would have left a big hole in ground and probably both houses destroyed, not to mention anyone in them!
