Gearbox Hi there just rejoined after a while away.I need some advice on gearboxes. When I bought my 1980 CF2 5 years ago the 4th gear was shot so I got a new gearbox put in from a local transmission specialist. He told me the gearbox was in good nick apart from 2nd which was a little worn. Now 5 years on 4th gear has gone again. Started jumping out of gear then a bit of grinding going in and finally lots of grinding metal but wouldn't engage. Unfortunately I had driven it down from Scotland to Herts so took it to a local garage I know and they told me that 4th is shot and that perhaps 4th gear was a bit weak on these models, but I have never seen that mentioned. So a couple of questions-can 4th gear be repaired or should I be looking for a new box? I got that box from ebay-was I just unlucky in that 4th was worn? If I get a new box does anyone do reconditioned boxes that might stand up better-I don't do much mileage, maybe 1500 a year or so. My only other thought was could it be something on the engine that is affecting 4th on the gearbox? All help gratefully appreciated. Cheers Paul |
