Bosch Distributor on a 2.3 slant
Bosch distributor
Hi Bedford brainboxes
I discovered the spare Bedford has a Bosch distributor plus Bosch electronic ignition all mounted on a cast mounting plate. Has anyone ever come across this set up before?

Bosch/Opel.
Hi Mike,
Yes there is a conversion plate fitted to the later models of the Bedford CF2 slant engine's before they where switched to the 2 ltr. Opel or Cavalier mark one engine.
This conversion plate allowed them to fit a Bosch distributor with electronic ign. I had one but gave it to a member of the club who was having trouble with the set up he had on his engine.

Hi Mike,
As Doug said, they were fitted to very late facelift CF's just before the Opel engines and CF2 were introduced.
They are rare now but well worth having. I've just bought one of Adrian Bailey last week. The complete set up with a spare module. NO more fiddling with points.
The cast plate Doug refers to is the adaptor plate to fit the dizzy to the engine, using the 3 retaining screws on the block. I think the casting plate you refer to is the one the coil and module are mounted on. This plate was mounted the bulk head rather than on the engine.
If you need any info on wiring it up let me know and I post some pics of mine.
Cheers Frank

Its fitted now and produces a MASSIVE spark, hopefully another improvement and ready for our run up to Oban and beyond from the Isle of Man on the 24th. Doug I hope we can call on you to collect that bearing please?

Good to hear Mike.
BTW did that nice (greyish) pop top camper that was for sale near you on the IoM sell? Wasn't some girl after it?

April 24th.
Hi Mike,
I take it you are talking about the Monday of April 24th, for your visit to Perth to collect your prop-shaft centre bearing?

Frank, the young lady and her partner bought the pop top and are using it all the time, it looks as though they are thrilled to bits with it :)
As for my van I think that after many false starts the random misfire seems to be beaten. I think the problem was two fold, a defective new ballast resistor coil and a poor soldered joint to the resistance wile for the ballast.
With the Bosch distributor and electronic ignition fitted and the resistance wire bypassed the van is like a new vehicle!!
I think the poor spark had hidden the problem every time I fitted new plugs it ran smoothly for a while but the problem returned.
We are off to Scotland again shortly so that will be the acid test for the van - cant wait :)
